Kuwait in July and August is not a test of willpower. Temperatures climb past 50°C, humidity traps the air, and the shift does not pause. If you work outdoors, a written routine beats good intentions.
This one runs hour by hour, from the night before your shift to the drive home.
The most common mistake is starting to drink water at 11am on the way to work. Your body does not hydrate on demand — it needs hours. Drink steadily through the evening and keep a bottle by the bed.
Go easy on heavy coffee and energy drinks before sleep; they push fluid loss. If you have an early outdoor start, sleep enough — fatigue reduces your body's ability to regulate temperature.
Long outdoor hours with heavy sweating are not covered by plain water. You lose salts with sweat, and that is when headache, weakness, and cramping start, even while you are drinking.
Your car becomes an oven. Keep an insulated bottle, a sunshade, a cap, sunscreen, and a light pale shirt in the bag. Never leave a person or a child in a parked car, not even for a minute.
The sun is overhead, the ground radiates heat upward, and the air itself is hot. Build outdoor work around it.
Heat exhaustion builds; it does not arrive all at once. If you notice any of these, stop working and get somewhere cool.
The last two do not wait. Get help, cool your body with water and cold compresses, and keep someone with you. If symptoms do not settle, or someone faints, that is an emergency and needs a doctor. This is general information only — any unusual illness deserves medical advice.
A common mistake after a long night shift is sitting in a hot car for a minute and falling asleep. Interior temperatures reach dangerous levels fast.
Start the AC, open the doors, then go inside. If you feel dizzy or nauseous, do not drive — rest and drink first.
In a few months you will not remember which shifts were outdoors at 50°C. Log them in Shiftat-E and note the extreme heat days; that record helps when you total hours and plan leave.
