School times do not move for your roster, and your roster does not move for school. Most parents try to hold both in their heads, and within two weeks the late pickups and missed forms start. The fix is to put the school calendar next to the shift schedule and plan from there.
Before you open the roster, open the school calendar: first day of term, last day, holidays, exam weeks, and any activity that needs a ride. Mark those dates in one colour, then place your shifts on top. Every clash shows up immediately, while you still have room to solve it calmly.
The first week is the hardest because times shift and traffic is heavy. If you can, take that week off or swap your shifts so you are around. Children need longer in the morning, the bus runs late, and the school asks for paperwork. Do not go into that week on nights and end up driving a sleepy child home on no sleep.
The bus is simpler, but it has one time and it will not wait. If your shift starts before the bus arrives, someone else must own that slot. If you drive instead, count traffic and parking, not just the distance.
Homework does not need a whole hour, it needs someone present. Agree a clear split with your partner: who sits with the first child, who takes the second, and which days you are home. On evening shifts, use half an hour before work for a quick check, and leave the rest to your partner instead of letting it pile up until the weekend.
Exam weeks need planning in advance. Papers usually start in the morning, and a child needs proper sleep, breakfast, and a last review. Try not to be on nights the evening before an exam. If you cannot avoid it, arrange for your partner or a relative to stay the night. Put the exam dates in your calendar at the start of term, not the day before. Before term begins, compare the exam weeks with your shifts in Shiftat-E and mark the weeks you need to be home.
The usual mistake is planning shifts first and discovering later that they break the school run. The second is leaving pickups to one person, so the household stops the first day that person is sick. The third is forgetting early-finish days and activities that were on the school letter in September.
Keep one plan in one place: the school calendar, your shifts, and your leave dates. Record your shifts and hours, and plan your leave in Shiftat-E so clashes appear before they happen and you can ask for a change while there is still time. Then review the week every Thursday for ten minutes. That is enough to save the next one.
