Shift Clothing From Summer to Winter: A Simple Adjustment

Shiftat-E Blog

Kuwait does not do mild weather. Summer is brutal, winter is short and genuinely cold, and the AC at work can make you live through both seasons in a single shift. The good news: you do not need a new wardrobe. You need a few layers and one small adjustment to what you already own.

Layering beats buying: it gives you control. Add one, drop one, and you cover a hot car park, a freezing office and a cold walk to the gate.

Hot outside, freezing inside

In summer the problem is not the heat alone โ€” it is the gap between the street and your desk. You walk in sweating and need a jacket thirty minutes later. The fix: a light cotton t-shirt, a thin jacket that lives in your bag rather than on your body, and a light scarf for when the AC hits your neck.

Very dark colours trap heat outdoors; keep mid-tones for summer and save the dark shades for winter.

Layering for cold night shifts

Winter nights are noticeably colder than the day, especially if your job moves between buildings or has you standing at a gate. These make a real difference:

Do not wear your heaviest layer from the start of the shift. Cold builds after midnight, so keep the thickest item for the last few hours.

Strong AC is the trap nobody plans for

Most people prepare for heat and forget that AC can have you shivering for seven hours. Always keep one light piece within reach โ€” a thin jacket, a hoodie, or even a scarf. If your desk sits under a vent, ask to move it; constant cold tightens your neck and makes the shift feel twice as long.

Shoes: the biggest win for long hours standing

If you are on your feet for eight hours, your shoes matter more than any other item. Pick a pair with a thick, shock-absorbing sole and a fit that is comfortable on day one โ€” nothing that needs to "break in". Thick cotton socks reduce friction; keep a spare pair for damp floors.

In winter, avoid soles that slide on wet tiles. In summer, avoid shoes that trap heat. One comfortable pair worn all year beats three pairs you argue with every morning.

What to keep in your work drawer

A small, organised drawer saves you a lot of trips. Keep it stocked with a folded light jacket, spare socks, a spare t-shirt, tissues, a small deodorant, and a charger. These stay put and rescue you on an unexpectedly cold day or the morning you spill coffee on yourself.

Once your shifts are logged in Shiftat-E, you can see when the cold season actually hits your roster and adjust your kit a week early. It keeps your shifts, hours and leave plan in one place.

Start with one change this week: put a light jacket and a spare pair of socks in your drawer and run it for a full week. You will notice the difference on your first cold night shift. If you want your shifts and hours in one place while you do it, try Shiftat-E on Google Play.
