In plenty of workplaces the supervisor enters your hours, not you. You finish the shift, hand over, go home, and at the end of the month a sheet appears with numbers you never wrote. Most of the time it works fine. When it doesn't, the mistake is quiet โ and you feel it in your pay before you see it on paper.
Someone else logging your hours is not a small admin detail. Sick leave, overtime, night allowance and end-of-service calculations all trace back to that one record. Once a wrong number is approved, correcting it later needs a paper trail you may no longer have.
Time is the other risk. An error found two days later is a quick fix. An error found three months later becomes an argument about what happened, and memory loses that argument every time.
You do not need permission to write down what you worked. It takes a minute a day, and it is the only version of events that belongs to you. Note the date, the shift code, start and end time, any overtime, and who was on duty with you.
Shiftat-E makes that part simple: you record your shifts and hours as you go, and log overtime when it happens, so the month is already documented before the official sheet appears. Plan your leave in the same place and you can see at a glance whether a recorded off day actually landed.
Start with the person who entered it, privately, and keep it factual. "My sheet shows nine hours on the fourteenth; I worked thirteen." No accusation, no audience. Bring your own log and ask them to check it against the system.
If nothing changes, put the request in writing โ a short message repeating the date, the hours, and the correction you want. Writing is not escalation; it just creates a record. Give a clear, reasonable window, then follow up once.
Go to HR when you have asked twice with no answer, when the same error repeats across months, or when it affects more than one person on your team. Bring dates, your own record, and what you already raised. Calm and organised reads as credible; angry and vague does not.
You are not asking for a favour. You are asking for the hours you worked to be written down correctly โ and the easiest way to prove them is to have written them down yourself from day one.
