Kuwait Summer Shifts and Humidity: A Practical Guide

Shiftat-E Blog

Summer shifts in Kuwait are not just hot, they are humid. Temperatures hit 45-50C, and when humidity is high your sweat stops evaporating, so your body stops cooling itself. For shift workers, the difference between a morning shift and a night shift is the difference between manageable and brutal.

This guide covers why humidity makes the work harder, how to structure a shift at peak heat, and how to keep a clear record of your hours and leave.

Why humidity hits harder than plain heat

High humidity slows evaporation, so the felt temperature runs well above the number on the forecast. Near open asphalt in the afternoon it can feel closer to 60C.

The real risk is that dehydration sneaks up on you. Headaches, dizziness and heavy legs are signs that you have lost more fluid than you have replaced.

Outdoor sites against indoor sites

Outdoor work on salik, roads and open sites takes a double hit, especially at midday. Heat comes up from the tarmac as well as down from the sun.

Indoor work on air-conditioned sites is easier in comparison, but the walk from the site to the car to the store is still part of your shift. A car parked in the sun becomes an oven within minutes.

Splitting the shift in summer

Break heavy work into short blocks instead of running straight through. Start early before the heat peaks and keep the middle of the day for lighter or paperwork tasks.

Drink small amounts every 15 to 20 minutes and cut back on coffee, tea and energy drinks, which speed up fluid loss. Wear light, loose, cotton clothing and take a ventilated helmet if your employer offers one.

Food and sleep after the shift

Heavy greasy meals at peak summer sit badly during a shift. Eat light before you start and use small meals with fruit and fluids in between.

After a night shift, sleep in a cool, dark room. Do not treat recovery as free in this climate, because the body needs longer to get back to normal.

Tracked shifts make a difference

Most shifts vanish from memory the moment they end. Do you know how many hours you worked this month? Do you know how many days stand between you and your leave?

Shiftat-E lets you log your shifts and hours and plan your leave, so your month stays visible instead of vague. When your hours are written down, you can discuss a shift swap from a position of fact rather than from memory.

One last summer habit

If you feel dizzy, get a heavy headache or feel sick, stop immediately, move to a cool place and drink water. Do not wait for the shift to end, because heat stress develops quickly.
