The moment you spot a wrong entry, don't panic. Open your own record first and look at the exact date and time. Did a punch fail to register? Is the start time off? Did a shift swap never get logged?
Pin it down: which day, which hour, and what it should have been. That one clear detail makes everything after it much easier.
If you have a photo of the shift schedule, a message about a swap with a coworker, or a colleague who worked the same shift as you, bring it. Evidence settles these things fast.
Even without paperwork, a tidy memory beats a vague complaint. Say: "On Tuesday the 12th I worked 8 to 4, and the clock-out never registered."
The single most important habit: report it the same day or the next day at the latest. The longer you wait, the harder it becomes to prove.
Speak calmly and respectfully. Explain the problem in one clear sentence, and say plainly that you don't want the error to reach payroll.
If your supervisor points you to HR, go. Don't argue it, just make sure you let your supervisor know you're raising it formally.
Every workplace has its own channel: a biometric correction form, an official email, or the HR office. Use the route they ask for instead of looking for shortcuts.
Handing in the request isn't the finish line. Two or three days later, open your record and check whether the fix actually landed. If it's still wrong, go back to your supervisor calmly.
Close the loop before the month is locked and payroll runs. Fixing it after payday is a much longer road.
Every week, spend two minutes checking your punches and your hours. Small errors get caught fast when you look often.
