Your car does not care that your night shift ended at six in the morning. It still needs oil, tyres, and a battery that turns over on the first try. Every place you need to take it — the workshop, the tyre shop, the traffic department — opens at eight and shuts by one, which is exactly when you are asleep.
So most shift workers postpone it. The oil change becomes a warning light, the warning light becomes a breakdown, and the breakdown happens on the morning you drive home half asleep. The fix is to stop handling car care when a problem appears and start treating it as part of your rotation.
Government offices and most garages in Kuwait work roughly 8am to 1pm. On nights you sleep through that window. On a rotation the window moves every week, so no habit forms.
You do not need a 24-hour garage. Service happens on off days, not on “someday”.
Open your roster and find the off day that falls right after your last night shift. That day is useless for anything social, but perfect for errands: you are awake at a strange hour, the roads are empty, and the workshop has no queue at seven.
Book the appointment for the first two hours after your shift ends instead of sleeping first. You will be tired, but you will actually go.
Five minutes of checking means the workshop visit is only for real work.
Every time you spend money on the car, write down the date, kilometres, work done, and place. Keep the receipt. It is the same habit as logging your shifts: small entries now, no argument later.
When a garage claims you skipped a service, that file ends the conversation. Shiftat-E is built on keeping your own record instead of trusting memory, and a notebook in the glovebox does the same job for the car.
A car parked in the sun all day in July sits at punishing temperatures. Three things fail first: the battery, the cooling system, and the tyres. A two-year-old battery often dies in the first heatwave, so replace it before summer. Check coolant monthly from May to September, and watch tyres that were fine in winter.
Book the big service before summer starts, not during it, while the workshop is quiet.
None of this takes more than a few hours a month. What it takes is deciding in advance when those hours are.
Shiftat-E is free on Google Play and lets you log shifts, log hours, and plan leave. Get it at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.q8dm.shiftate and put your next service date where you keep your shift log.
